The Patient Service Specialist will consistently provide exemplary customer service while proactively executing all front office administrative duties.
The position coordinates the patient experience from reception to insurance authorization.
Duties:
Manages patient registration, insurance verification, scheduling, collection and cash receipting, arrival and/or departure desk activities according to standards and guidelines ensuring accuracy and an outstanding patient experience Enters and maintains confidential and accurate patient information including patient insurance and payment information throughout patient encounter.
Assists billing functions accurately and/or directs to appropriate billing team members.
Demonstrates proficiency of HCPCS codes as well as applicable federal and state healthcare regulations.
Skills:
Patient appointment scheduling Insurance verification (2 years minimum) Creation of new patient charts and maintenance of patient records Scanning and filing patient documents and ensuring complete and accurate information Managing incoming phone calls Obtaining insurance authorization (2 years minimum) Providing financial counseling for patients and posting over the counter (OTC) payments Daily document research on an electronic health/medical record system Minimum
Qualifications:
High School Diploma; 5 years of medical office experience; valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
Preferred
Qualifications:
At least 3 years of experience with EMR/electronic health/medical record systems (preferably OPIE).
Working knowledge of HIPAA and other medical insurance regulations and terminology for private payer, state and federal plans including coding, billing and reimbursement protocols.
At least 3 years of experience obtaining insurance authorizations prior to service, researching LCD and policy for authorization requirements for specific codes.
Associate's degree.
Ability to type 40 correct words per minute.
At least 5 years of computer and office equipment experience including MS Office products (Word, Excel), e-mail and automated billing systems, facsimile machines, calculator, postage machine, copiers, etc.
